We spent a lot of time this week hashing this thing out. I thought you might like to see some excerpts from our group chat this week:
"Day one begins. I'm afraid to get out of bed."
"Praying thru the lack of coffee! Making room for the Holy Spirit to move!"
"We are going to slip and make adjustments I am sure of that."
"We are so addicted to caffeine! Sad!"
"In our history lesson today: ancient Chinese wisdom from 500 B.C. 'He who aims to be a man of complete virtue does not seek to gratify his appetite in food.' -Confucius"
"I am surviving!....Wendy's has sweet potatoes!"
"Council, I regret to inform you I just brewed my coffee. I haven't drank any....Yet.".......
"I didn't drink the coffee."
"We're still figuring this out ladies! Let's pray for each other's journeys today!
"If we 'fail' this whole thing completely but it brings us crying and laughing continually to His feet, then it will be a success."
"Crying again because I just heard from God."
"Drench those chicken breasts is e.v.o.o.! And salt 'em up!"
"I am here to report that for at least the time being I have no headache. Not sure if it will come back or not but I am enjoying the freedom from the paralyzing pain."
"Can we chew gum? lol."
"Craving a big steak. Guess that'll wait til June."
"My husband decided to do my list with me for one week. And this is not the week."
"So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing."
1 Thessalonians 5:11
"I'm sort of surprised at how much food and drink affect my mood or how much I turn to them instead of God. This should not be!"
"Let's get past the number of foods and get to Jesus.
What brings you closer to Him? Do that."
"I am guilty of turning to a DC or food to bring me "peace" when my peace lies in Him and turning to Him. We are learning a lot!"
"I think I'm turning orange, too. haha"
(sweet potatoes)
"I just saw a guy drinking large drink from McDonalds and I thought 'who do you think you are? So special with your fancy drink!'"
"I made a road trip and ate out without breaking my fast! Oh, and I was so hungry that even the two hairs I found in my chicken sandwich didn't even phase me. I just kept on going."
"really wanting coffee!! But want coffee to be a pleasure, not a crutch! God is my crutch!"
"Oh I miss wheat thins......."
When we got together this week, it was over grilled chicken and veggies. Just as yummy and a whole lot healthier than last week! Everyone was able to find something from their list in the lineup.
One week in and we were able to get past logistics and spend our time discussing our purpose in 7. According to the book there are seven purposes for fasting: mourning, inquiry, repentance, preparation, crisis, worship. It was a meaningful night of sharing our hearts behind our food fast month. May we each be closer to Him today than we were yesterday.
